A typical section of a 52m high gravity dam, shown in Figure 183, was analyzed by CADAM3D and compared with the results of the 2-D educational version of CADAM that were verified using hand calculations. The results are presented in the table below.

Figure 183

Load combinations are defined as follows where Q refer to horizontal or vertical earthquake and Hn refer to normal reservoir level:

       N1:        (D+ Hn +U)

       E2A:         (D+ Hn +U)         + 1.0 (QH        + 0.3 (QV)

       E2B:          (D+ Hn +U)         - 1.0 (QH        + 0.3 (QV)

       E2C:          (D+ Hn +U)         + 1.0 (QH)        -  0.3 (QV)

       E2D:         (D+ Hn +U)         -  1.0 (QH        -  0.3 (QV)

       E2E:         (D+ Hn +U)         + 0.3 (QH        + 1.0 (QV)

       E2F:         (D+ Hn +U)         -  0.3 (QH        + 1.0 (QV)

       E2G:        (D+ Hn +U)         + 0.3 (QH        -  1.0 (QV)

       E2H:        (D+ Hn +U)         -  0.3 (QH        -  1.0 (QV)

       S1:           (D+ Hn +U)         + 1.0 (QH

       S2:           (D+ Hn +U)        -  1.0 (QH
